So I was browsing reddit tonight and saw a story in which some landscapers actually butchered a pomegranate. The amount they took off would kill some types of trees, but for others, like figs, this is simply a haircut.

I was reading through the comments to see what happened. What an incredible tree so carelessly handled. Having said that, well established pomegranates are very resilient trees and are also very forgiving. I've had multiple pomegranate trees that I thought were dead to my surprise were very much alive. A lot of heavy pruned trees look horrible like this but shoot out massive growth the following spring. Will the owner have fruit this year? Probably not.
I hold that this is a significant amount of damage that was unauthorized by the homeowner. I would determine what information was actually relayed to the landscaping company and consider filing a claim based on what was said.
