Desertnyi harvest

Post by greenfig »

A very well balanced variety, sweeter than Parfianka, when the fruit is ripe, doesn’t crack open as much as Parfianka too. Very soft seeded.
I find the online description of this variety is almost wrong. The rind is not orange and it doesn’t taste like orange.
And yes, mine is true Desertnyi that originated at UCD.
Highly recommended!
Another benefit for me, it is upright growing tree that is easy to train as a tree.

Beautiful. How many varieties do you think you’ll eat fruit off this year?

This year, only 2 from my trees. If you count all total, maybe 10 different ones since I will get to taste others at different places. The poms grow well here :)

Nice looking pom. Is it later ripening than Parfianka?

I think it’s a bit earlier, actually

Your Desertnyi poms look delicious @greenfig!

Our overnight low was 42˚F. and the forecast high is around 75˚ F. This weather pattern may last 3-4 days. I hope this short cold spell in Waddell will ripen our Desertnyi pomegranates soon.

What I discovered that if you take an almost ripe Pom and place I’m a fridge for 2-3 days, it gets riper and sweeter. If you have many, you can try. It works with ones that almost made it
