Just tested Sharp Velvet

Post by greenfig »

I was Huntington Gardens today and went for some pomegranate testing of whatever was ripe today.
They had a Sharp Velvet. I got so excited but after trying it was so disappointed ... It wasn’t even close to the online descriptions. This one was soft seeded but not sweet enough to be special, too acidic. Close to what you can buy in a store but with soft seeds.
I took a photo .
Any of you who have or tried ripe fruit, please share your experience.

Thanks for sharing your tasting experience, @greenfig. I'm eating Granada hard seeded pomegranates now (bird pecks and gnawed holes in pom rinds tell me when to start picking) and waiting for the soft seeded poms to ripen. Tasted an early Desertnyi. It was only so-so. Pomegranate ripeness is difficult to judge. The birds and roof rats have not started poking holes in the rinds of our soft seeded poms yet.
