The last two years have been really disappointing for me with zero fruit. My collection has dwindled down to about 15 trees. Some were given to other folks wanting to try growing in Michigan, others just didn't make it through winter. Earlier this season I decided to do some heavy root and trunk pruning to two trees that are among my oldest and have really been struggling. The results really speak for themselves.
Photo 1 is of a Kazake that was trunk pruned but not root pruned = Severe struggling but it will be root pruned next spring.
Photo 2 is of an Austin that was both root and trunk pruned. Immediately after trunk pruning flowers emerged for the first time in 2 years.
Photo 3 is of Entek Habi Saveh exploding with growth. I'm debating whether or not to go down to one trunk or keep it as is.
Photo 4 is of Parfianka which was both root and trunk pruned.
