Re: Sumbar pom in Seattle - first year fruiting
I have to say, I had another pomegranate from my Sumbar tree, and it was also dry and fairly flavorless. I don't know if that's an attribute of the variety, the youth of the tree, or the fact of the dryness all year long. The tree seemed very healthy and thriving, though.

Re: Sumbar pom in Seattle - first year fruiting
Well - update time! I picked one of the pomegranates on this Sumbar variety tree, in Seattle. We had a very cool start to the year; but the National Phenology Network shows accumulated GDD is almost up to normal for this time of year (2,011 in 2024 vs 2,076 in 30 year average).
Anyhow, the fruit ...

So... any resprout from the roots?pombazaar wrote: Mon Apr 15, 2024 4:21 pm Update 4/15/2024:
Top growth appears to be completely dead. I also did a scratch test at the very bottom and that too didn't show any signs of life. So the whole tree is likely dead at least to root.

Re: Water rooting - attempt #1
The whips that grew roots in the water grew enthusiastically when transferred to a rooting medium. However, the ones that had not developed roots have really struggled. They all pushed leaves a d branchs, bit just... stayed in stasis. I also have really been unhappy with the seed starting/Potting ...

Re: Water rooting - attempt #1
I jabbed a few other whips in the soil. They have buds swelling, now.
I am leery of just putting them in cups, outside. Out nights stay cool even in the summertime, and the soil temperature seem to be really critical for root development in other species o have propagated. Perhaps I will try just ...
