Sweet vs Utah Sweet vs AC Sweet

Post by brain »

So help me out here.
Trying to get information about the differences or similarities between the three "sweets."

I assumed that the AC Sweet originated from a Utah Sweet.
The AC Sweet originates in Northwestern Arizona where it is practically in Utah. Beaver Dam. Right where AZ and Utah meet.
For some reason he named it after himself, or his initials anyway. He also named a Desert Willow after himself called "Art's Seedless."
He likes to name things after himself.
But what exactly did Arthur/Art do that warrants naming a new cultivar after himself?

The AC Sweet claims to handle low temperatures, lower than other soft seeded sweet varieties. Not sure if that is marketing or true.
So I am wondering if there is info out there about the origins of the AC Sweet.

I have two AC Sweets that I am growing in 7b. It wasn't on my list but I was able to easily get them for $26 each, so sure why not..
They grow kinda spindly, need to be staked for support. One of them has been brutalized by the wind, the other is in a different spot
in the yard and grown a branch that is at least a foot larger than when it was first planted in late April. It is pretty.
Curious to see how it does through the winter.

Now Utah Sweet. Not sure what the difference is between Utah Sweet and just regular old "Sweet."
Did Utah Sweet come from "Sweet?"
I have seen information that states its growing height and width as bigger than regular "Sweet",
but again it could all be marketing drivel. Does the Utah Sweet grow larger than regular "Sweet."

Anyone have any information based on growing experience they would like to share about the differences or similarities
of the the 3 sweets - Utah Sweet, Sweet, AC Sweet?

I am interested in obtaining one more "Sweet". Either Utah Sweet or Sweet.

'Sweet' was imported directly from the middle east by 'Chico State University' as you can see here https://www.lecooke.com/le-cooke-blog/s ... story.html

This is about 'Utah Sweet', they say that it is probably better than 'Sweet' https://www.lecooke.com/le-cooke-blog/u ... story.html
