Is now the time to fertilize?

Post by greenfig »

Any suggestions on what to use and where to get the cheapest good stuff? :)
I usually go with organics, to prevent the salt accumulation in the soil.

I use 'Holly-tone', locally where I live it's cheap priced for an organic product.

I have to wait until late April / early May but I've used Nectar for the Gods and a few water soluble brands. This year I'm going to be retiring most of my non-organic fertilizers in exchange for organic fertilizer tea made from rotting leaves I've collected and stored since fall. When it gets warmer algae forms on the surface of my water collection bins. This also produces rich fertilizer that you can mix in with tea and feed your trees. I know a guy locally here who feeds his plants only these two things and has had an extremely rich crop several years in a row. I want to test this for pomegranates and see how they fare.

Awesome! This year I decided to use Tree Tone. Will see if it makes any difference. The trees are already waking up :(
I also planted a few potted Poms and while doing so, replaced the soil in about 3 ft radius. It a really hard work to remove all those roots but the water drains nicely now. The soil is much cheaper if bought by a scoop.

I have never tried Tree Tone, yet I know for a fact the brand makes great products. I hope that it works good for you.
