These 2 are different varieties IMO.

Parfyanka=DPUN # 124

Parfianka=DPUN # 15

Your Kara-Kalinski is a nice grower, I hope it flowers next year, about 6 ft tall in ground now. Thanks !

Compared to yours :

My Ariana was almost indistinguishable from Parfianka for me, very class and not as tart as you had;
My Azadi was much whiter in color and too sweet for me;
Gissarskiy Rozovyi was like yours , I got it from Laguna Hills;
I was happy to see Syunt. Mine should fruit next year. This is the first time I see it up close.
Desertnyi was really good this year, probably because of the intense heat. It was packed with flavor and when ripe was quite sweet.
Sirenevyi: i surprised you had it ripe. This is a very late variety and usually is good when Parfianka and Desertnyi are long gone .
Angel Red: you didn’t discuss it much but it wasn’t good for me this year. Smaller arils, harder seeds, tart aftertaste. And I let some fruit hang until they couldn’t any more, the flavor didn’t improve.

I think some of the fruit you had would benefit from extra few weeks but you had to taste them all

What's different about 'Parfyanka=DPUN # 124' Verses 'Parfianka=DPUN # 15'

Hi Alan,
The Parfianka,was sourced from Dave Wilson and it's growth is more bush like.Arils are smaller and it appears to hold more acid.

The Parfyanka was sourced from Ed Valdivia who received it from the NCGR in Winters,Ca.Arils are larger and it's sweeter.
Appears a more upright growth but that could be my pruning.

It's my first fruiting season with the Parfyanka but Ed,Eyal and I think they are different varieties from the tastings we've done.
The Parfyanka's we tasted came off Ed's tree,the Parfianka's came off mine.

What about the actual seeds? Are the seeds of both equally soft? Are they both smaller than normal seeds?

Regarding seed softness I think the Parfyanka was softer.Those had just been picked and probably benefited from the rain,the Parfianka came out of storage.

Based upon what I have read I am wondering if maybe 'Ariana' and 'Parfyanka' might be the some pomegranate variety, or very similar.

And that 'Parfianka', 'a different spelling' might not be the same as 'Ariana' or 'Parfyanka'.

Also If you look at photos online of 'Parfianka' fruit, some have noticeably larger arils than the others do. I think that when Davis acted like 'Parfianka', and like 'Parfyanka' might be the same people then got them mixed up.

Actually, I just looked again, and now both 'Parfianka', and 'Parfyanka' are available again here https://npgsweb.ars-grin.gov/gringlobal/search as if they are different varieties. Yet as you know they are not giving cuttings to most people right now.

Yes,the Ariana improved greatly in the last couple of weeks,much sweeter.The one I ate today was better than any of my Parfianka's this year.Just a stunningly beautiful classic Pom.I think some of these varieties like to see temps below 40f before they really hit peak flavor.

Awesome! I love Ariana. Mine came directly from UCD as cuttings when they were still distributing them.
You mentioned the Parfianka aril sizes , mine were huge, about 30-40% larger than the Wonderful from a grocery store.

Here is Ariana, the Parfianka looks the same.
The arils are large and seeds are tiny so they are very juicy. The coin is 10 cents
