Re: Taste rating of 5 different varieties

We should start a spreadsheet and begin publish varieties that are not worth keeping to save everyone the time investment. I've started a list tracking attributes mostly from a cold hardy and early ripening perspective, but it would be nice to get input from regions where practically any varieties ...

Re: How to make pom fruit coating?

Maybe you can try different methods at the same time.

I was reading that the arils are good eaten frozen right out of the freezer if eaten within 6 months, I myself have not had enough fruit to bother trying to freeze yet.

Re: How to make pom fruit coating?

The only way to store pomegranate fruit for more than 2 months is to freeze the arils, they can be frozen for up to a year, yet they are best if eaten within 6 months, if frozen then the arils become good only for juicing, at least that is the impression I am getting online https://crec.ifas.ufl.edu...

Re: Angel Red is flowering!

The photos that you shared last year the arils were darker. She grows Angel red in a similar climate too you, Also in California, yet up to the date of this video she kept the plant in a pot in an area with limited hours of direct sun light, as you can see because of that limited hours of sunlight t...

Re: Juicing pomegranates

That is awesome! Yet some pomegranates are too hard to squeeze like that, I have one of the most powerful citrus presses there is and even that thing with half a pomegranate I struggle to squeeze some of them, I think that the harder and that the bigger the seeds are the harder it is to squeeze the ...

Re: Dealing with sunburn

Please keep us up to date about how the clay works, as far as shade cloth what you might try if the clay proves to not be for you, is mounting shade cloth to a panel of wood for each bush, and angling it so that it blocks the sun during the hottest hours of the day.

Re: Dealing with sunburn

Oh ya, when some people say poms they mean the plants, and I thought that you meant that the plant was sun burning too. Here by the time the pomegranate fruit are forming usually the 3 digit temperatures are gone, this year the only fruit we have are dark purple skinned fruits, very hard to see sun ...

Re: Dealing with sunburn

Nope I have not tried any clays, I was just reading that clay is made up in part of Alumina, which is just like Aluminium only more complex. I wonder if that means that it might have a cooling effect for that reason https://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-aluminium-and-vs-alumina/ You m...

Re: Info about California White

I have not tried grafting pomegranates yet, and that is good to know. The good thing about collecting cuttings from one's own tree, is that you have backups as long as you keep the tree, you don't need to arrange for more cuttings if the grafts fail. I find that every pomegranate bush that I have in...

Re: Info about California White

Thanks! The biggest difference I see is the color of arils , white vs. pink/red. I agree with you , if their photo is accurate and it’s of the actual cultivar they are selling, that is not White . The closest I could find was Anar Yazd . Maybe it’s the same fig but rebranded? https://paradisenurser...
