Re: Anyone tasted Mollar de Elche?
Here in North Carolina it seems like each year there are new varieties of pomegranates than the year before, available from the stores during the California pomegranate season, and I think that is where they come from during the California pomegranate season. Although we can find pomegranates in som...

Re: Anyone tasted Mollar de Elche?
You are welcome. That is a very good question, and I have no idea why 'Mollar De Elche' is not popular in the USA, although I wonder if it might have to do with the Wonderful pomegranate dominating the grocery store, and the department store shelves for such a long time, in a lot of states all peopl...

Also as you know different climates, different soils, different nutrients, different year, different time of year, can also effect taste.

Re: Anyone tasted Mollar de Elche?
The 'Alabama Pomegranate Association' used to have 'Mollar De Elche', yet they lost all but one variety of pomegranate to disease, and 'Mollar De Elche' was not the surviving variety. This is from my notes "Mollar De Elche - Famous Spanish variety, from the town of Elche, in Valencia, Spain. Pi...

Re: Feedback on Fleischman
Looks like you have spelled it wrong, the usda germplasm stopped working right after scheduled maintenance, although I have the following in my notes. I think that I got the information from the germplasm "DPUN028 Fleischman (Very rare) strong fruity flavor. Medium sized pink fruit with pink ar...
Re: Pruning
The tricky thing about which fertilizer to use, it depends on what the soil actually has in it already, and how deep the roots go. An actual pomegranate seedling has much deeper roots than what most people grow. The old fashioned way was to either grow a seedling for fruit, or graft a variety to a s...

Re: New to pomegranates
I would put them in the ground if I were you, in the hot and humid south the last thing that you want to do is put a pomegranate in a spot that it stays wet, for disease reasons, yet like you were already told in the sun in pots is bad for them above a certain temperature, so in other words some of ...

Re: Need Help re Raised bed
I think that it's a combination of the hot dry summers, and the fact that raised beds dry out faster than the ground does. Texas summers are hard on pomegranates as it is, adding the a raised bed to the environment makes it worst. You could try watering the bushes 2 times a day, during the hotter mo...

Re: How do you fertilize your trees?
I am starting to think that the pomegranates that don't need a lot of additional nitrogen are the ones with root stock, or are seedlings, because plants grown from seed have roots that grow much deeper, than a plant created from rooted cuttings.

Re: How do you fertilize your trees?
That University of Florida information says right on it, that their fertilizer results are for a soil that has high nutrient depletion, which I could not picture being a problem for your location. Based upon that information it seems like the following fertilizer would be the best match, yet for Apr...
