Re: First ripe Parfianka: Aug 31!

My Parfianka are damn near ripe here in Fresno CA as well. Was going to wait for 1 to crack before I pulled them, but now you got me wanting to do it now ;)

Re: PSA for Container Growers

I'll take some pictures tomorrow. The Parfianka has produced full-size fruit this and last year. The Ambrosia was close-ish last year, but the arils were far lighter than they should be. The wonderful is taking it's sweet-@$$ time. I have had huge bird problems with my figs and stone-fruit, but ...

Re: PSA for Container Growers

The first 3 trees I ever planted were a Wonderful, an Ambrosia and the Parfianka. So, I think that makes this season its 4th or 5th in the ground. The other 2, the Ambrosia and the Wonderful are same age but are not nearly as prolific or mature nearly as quickly. Maybe the Parfianka hit a buried cat ...

Re: PSA for Container Growers

I'm so tempted to grow one of those but even all the folks in Cali and the entire west coast say that it's late. I don't think it'll stand a chance here. This year my Belbek flowered for the first time, late in the season. Next year I expect to see much earlier flowers. This variety grows like a ...

Re: Sirenevyi

Strange... I have a sirenvyi as well but mine had lighter colored arils last year. My daughter loved them, I think they taste a bit like watermelon.

Re: Best Pruning techniques

You gotta give it to greenfig, he prunes a beautiful pom. What do you do w/ the vertical shoots that come in late spring after budding? I forget the technical term for them (water shoots?). I've read varying opinions on them, they grown no buds, so I've heard of removing them, never been vigilant ...

Re: Who is your MVP?

I could certainly re-word what UC Davis has to say about the variety and sound like I know what I'm talking about, but this is the first year my tree might grow fruit to maturity, so I have no personal experience. On the other hand, the aggies have the following to say:

Large fruit, with hard ...

Re: Intro from New Mexico

Welcome to the forum! You certainly picked an amazing variety to start with in the Parfianka. I have one myself and it is absolutely one of my favorites. I'm in zone 9B, so we're certainly on different ends of the spectrum.

Who is your MVP?

Ok, I know the season is early, but, so far, who is your MVP (Most Valuable Pomegranate). My wife and I play this game each year overall with our fruit trees (the winner this year was the Blenheim Apricot), but as this is a pomegranate forum, let's keep it to pomegranates. Personally, I have been ...

Re: 2020 seedlings

I started a compost pile a few years ago and apply it regularly to my raised beds. The number one "weed" I pull from my garden is pomegranates...
