Just wanted to update everyone on my experience with the two feijoas I mentioned in my previous post (apollo and nikita), and some other feijoa enthusiasm
I have to say, if you haven't tried feijoa fruits or growing them yet, holey moley you should! They're extremely ornamental trees, great color ...

Re: Crown Gall or Weird Callus?
I meant to get pictures of it a few months ago but most of the bark and/or callous in that area has peeled off since then
Maybe some kind of sunburn or freeze damage happened to it, I'm not sure?

Re: Crown Gall or Weird Callus?
I have something similar going on with one of my poms near the trunk, I think. I'll try to post a pic soon when I can get one. Did it have kind of a spongey texture?

Re: Citrus
I'm not proud to admit it, but I have a citrus problem. I grow about 30 varieties of citrus, most of them are in containers but I have a few in the ground in my greenhouse. The ones in the greenhouse are the more cold hardy cultivars, mostly 'quats. various hybrids, as well as satsumas and some ...

Re: Sub Irrigated Planters for Pomegranates (?)
I think I'd have to agree, SIP's don't seem like the optimal way to grow them unless you have a big container the roots can really take off in. The poms in my picture came from cuttings rooted in 16oz cups. They filled the container of soil, went through the soil "wick", and filled part of the ...

Sub Irrigated Planters for Pomegranates (?)
Hello all,
wanted to see what your experiences were / if anyone had given thought to using SIP's to grow pomegranates.
I have one of each variety I have in the same style SIP's as I use for my figs and it seems to have been working nicely, though I have probably kept them on the drier side ...

Pomegranate dormancy
How do you all tell that your poms are dormant? Most of the leaves have dropped from all of my poms, but I don't know if there's a trick to tell if they're still sort of active or not like the latex that flows from figs' bark.
For example, my greenhouse stays ~ >30 degrees so I'd imagine though they ...

Re: Pineapple guavas (feijoas) make me happy!
I can't wait to try pineapple guavas. I just planted two in the ground this spring in my GH alongside my citrus, poms, and figs (and a chilean guava!). I think the two varieties I have are Nikita and Apollo. Really nice looking bushes but still very small. I'm really thinking I'll like them a lot ...

Re: Mulberry leaf pest?
Were any leaves left partially on or was it just entirely defoliated w/ no trace of damaged material left? Any chew marks, markings, scat, hoof prints, broken branches etc that you could go off of to help w/ ID? I know deer are the first pest I'd attempt rule out in my neck of the woods regarding ...
