CRFG scion exchange - Tulare
My wife and I went to the California Rare Fruit Growers Association's annual scion exchange yesterday and picked up quite a few pom scions. We were both surprised at the varieties they had, not only the poms but the stone fruit, pip fruit, grapes, mulberries, etc. We got a couple pom scions of each ...

Re: Big Cuttings
Good to know....Sounds like the same method I use for most of my fig cuttings. My wife wants to try propagating her poms so this'll be easy to get her started on. I've always been able to get my figs rooted pretty easily but have trouble keeping them alive because I forget about them; my wife can ...

Re: Citrus Tasting at LREC
Just got back from the citrus tasting event at LREC and wanted to share some pictures. It seemed like there was a bigger crowd (more homeowner growers, less commercial) than last year and the fruit was amazing!

Re: Citrus Tasting at LREC
It's a free event for all. The website said that they would be selling some bags of assorted citrus, e.g. cara caras, madarins, etc.
They do provide a printout of all the varieties on sample so you can take notes on the ones you like, don't like, etc. There's also a plethora of free publications to ...

Citrus Tasting at LREC
Since there's a few people on here in the CA Central Valley I thought I'd let ya know about a citrus tasting event coming up on Saturday December 14th from 9:00 to 12:00, just outside of Lemon Cove, CA. We went last year and had a great time experiencing the copious varieties of citrus available for ...

Re: Pineapple guavas (feijoas) make me happy!
Did you buy the feijoas from a nursery or did you propagate them yourself? We're growing two guava plants on our property (not counting the feijoa, since that's not technically a "guava"), one is a strawberry guava and the other is a tropic pink guava. The strawberry guava can handle our winters ...

Re: Pineapple guavas (feijoas) make me happy!
I haven't been south of Bakersfield in over 20 years, but now that I'm semi-retired I've been hoping to get down there to check out the nurseries
So if I do make it, I'll definitely keep my eyes open!

Re: Pineapple guavas (feijoas) make me happy!
Wow, love the size of those feijoas!! We're hoping to get other varieties - large ones specifically - and I remember when we lived in New Zealand (and feijoas are EVERYWHERE there... even yummy feijoa ice cream!) that the large ones were Apollo, I think (?) We'll be looking into it before we make ...

Pineapple guavas (feijoas) make me happy!
Just showing off what brought me joy this afternoon!! I was walking by my feijoa bushes and noticed that my fruit is finally ripening and dropping. I expected them next month, so I am quite pleased. I introduced them to two of my neighbors and they tasted them for the first time and loved them. I'm ...
