Re: Water rooting - attempt #1
I jabbed a few other whips in the soil. They have buds swelling, now. I am leery of just putting them in cups, outside. Out nights stay cool even in the summertime, and the soil temperature seem to be really critical for root development in other species o have propagated. Perhaps I will try just in...

Water rooting - attempt #1
I pruned back my Sumbar pomegranate in Seattle hard this winter. I saved some pruning to start cuttings, but then I gave those away. So all the material I had left were long whips that I had used as a make-shift broom for sweeping pavement! Oops! I trimmed and formed the whips into cuttings, and the...

Re: Adding two new early poms - any advice?

Thanks for thinking of me and this matter!
When you say 'newer cultivars from Ukraine' - does that mean they are here, as germplasm, in the United States? My Russian is terrible and my Ukrainian language skills are non-existant, so ...

Re: Adding two new early poms - any advice?
As we say here locally, "It's a disease" lol. Ha ha ha not feeling attacked at all LOL 8-) I suppose I really want to know how it compares to Sverkhranniy regarding need for heat to ripen (or both to Sumbar if anyone knows), to prioritize which one in at which place in our little microcli...

Adding two new early poms - any advice?
I have a problem. I can't help myself. I managed to hold myself back to getting just two new pomegranate varieties, both sourced from Planting Justice in Oakland. First is Sverkhranniy, a pom that many folks suggest might be the earliest ripening pom around. The second is Medovyi Vasha (<<Your Honey...

Sumbar pom in Seattle - first year fruiting
Well well! My Sumbar tree (sourced from Planting Justice in Oakland, planted in 2022), flowered this spring amd set fruit! Unfortunately, we moved from pur house in July. I passed by in September and there were over a half dozen beautiful heavy fruits on the tree, but I had no camera. I had the chan...
