Fertilizing

Hi all,
I thought I would get some insight from all with you to see how everybody is fertilizing. I typically use liquid kelp fertilizer, but I can’t say that I am completely crazy about the results. I usually don’t get poor growth, but not quite as vigorous as I would like… I have a feeling a good chunk of it is my soil, heavy clay, but unfortunately there’s not much to be done about that.

I'm guessing most of your larger trees are in ground? I've been using Gaia Mania about once a week along with One Shot Granules about every 2-3 weeks for my potted trees and I feel like this year brought very vigorous growth. All 3 of my trees gained about 3-3.5 feet of solid growth and tripled in trunk size. Granted these trees are now 2 years old.

I've got some bigger ones in ground - I still have quite a few in pots because I'd like to see many of them fruit before throwing them to the Lions of winter - if one has fruit that's completely heavenly, then I'll make the sacrifice of keeping it in a pot if it's not hardy... At >50 varieties, that's no small task, but oh well...

I got the best growth and nicest fruit when I was able to foliar-spray with a water soluble triple 20 similar to Miracle Grow 3 times during the season. Poms seem to respond well to foliar fertilizing. I also have a very heavy clay soil so i thought it would be worth a try. Found out that the big Pom Wonderful growers use a foliar feeding program. I see why. Wish I knew what they use.
