I think it is working!
The first fruit I painted got ripe and was not damaged inside, the arils are red and sweet and juicy.
The skin is soft too. You can see some discoloration but the affect on the fruit quality is minimal.
Since it’s not an oil paint , this would work only in dry conditions but that’s were the pomegranates are growing too. This year heat in the West is brutal for sure
