Sweet Heart vs Vkusnyi

I bought a new variety from a local store, marketed by Trinity and described as “Though we have other, more common varieties of pomegranates in California, SweetHeart is a new variety that stands out. With its sweet, low acid flavor, and softer seeds it delivers a deliciously juicy and unique eating experience.” on their website https://www.sweetheartpomegranates.com/

I was very excited to try it!
It is very good. Sweet, soft seeded, large and only $2 each :)

On the same day I picked up my ripe Vkusnyi. And I tried it, and with my eyes closed I wouldn’t tell the difference between those two. To me they look the same and taste the same. One sort of distinctive feature of Vkusnyi arils is that they are on a smaller side. SweetHeart has smaller arils too!

I am not saying they renamed Vkusnyi and started selling under a different name but the resemblance is striking. I think if you take a seedling that is slightly different, you can give it a new name??

See the photos. If you see them, buy. You wouldn’t be disappointed, Vkusnyi has won many taste tests...oops I meant SweetHeart :)

It is hard to say in photos, yet the arils seem to fill the Vkusnyi pomegranate differently than the other one, the arils of Vkusnyi fit together a lot like a jigsaw puzzle. Yet very similar looking other than that.
