Hi everyone I just joined this forum to try and learn the ins and outs on growing poms. I live in Los Lunas NM zone 7a we have hot dry summers and cold dry winters. I am pretty new to the Pom world but have been growing fruit trees mostly figs for quite a few years. I currently am growing a couple parifanka in pots and have several cuttings from my dads tree growing out. He got his trees from his neighbor it’s an old heirloom variety that his neighbor has grown for many years. It seems to be very cold hardy and always sets a crop. But I have no idea what variety it is. My long term plan is to have several varieties in ground.

Welcome to the forum! You certainly picked an amazing variety to start with in the Parfianka. I have one myself and it is absolutely one of my favorites. I'm in zone 9B, so we're certainly on different ends of the spectrum.

@Ejpoms - Welcome, we're glad to have you here! This pomegranate you describe sounds very interesting! I would love to see pictures of it if you have any. There is an heirloom variety sourced from New Mexico that has been known to survive -17F and is called New Mexico #2. I wonder if this is the same variety.

Are you still growing poms and if so any updates on your experiences?
I am in the area and I am also growing 2 parfiankas and a few others.
I would love to chat some more if you are still in the area and hear how your experiences have been so far.

I would also be interesting hearing more about that heirloom variety you have.
Is it smaller or larger in size?
I have heard of Red Silk being common in southern New Mexico, which is smaller.
Also heard a lot about Wonderfuls and Grenadas being common here too.

There is a Dr. that has an orchard in Alamogordo where it was said he was going to make wine and juice with Wonderfuls and Grenadas.

Then the agriculture center in Los Lunas grows Aghanski poms. I guess those do well here.
