Well I have a bit of an update on the Pomegranates. So much for the mild winters. It got down to 5°F here in Kentucky. There was some damage to my trees and the branches died back to the roots. I don't think I had the proper protection for my young trees. I ended up putting a tomato cage around them and some old cotton sheets and tied it down with twine. In retrospect, I should have just put trashcans over top to keep them warm. I also put them in an open area instead of a protected one. You live and learn. The Sumbar and the Russian #26 grew back and seem to be just fine but the Utah Sweet is deader than a doornail. The humid climate doesn't seem to be an issue right now, so I think the only thing I have to battle against is the cold. I bought some cuttings of different varieties and I'm trying to root them. I'll choose a different location if they end up growing, somewhere closer to the house. Other than that, my surviving trees are okay. Hoping one day I will have fruit grow.
